It’s Joy week of this Advent series, and I’m inviting you to join me in spreading joy this week. Joy is infectious, so that makes this week’s ‘challenge’ easy: fill yourself with as much joy as possible. This is very personal – I’m not sure what brings you joy. It doesn’t really matter though – what matters is that I’m joyful when writing this post. If this works, hopefully you will be joyful by the time you finish reading it. With that said, there are a couple of things that I can share that might help you find your own joy:
Turn off depressing news stations. For this week, let politics, economic crises, and world affairs go on without your observation. Put down that depressing piece of excellent literature you’re reading. Avoid the office Grinch at all costs. As much as you can, clear the slate this week of anything you know is going to dull your joy.
As I’m writing this, I have my adorable cat Lulu purring on my lap. This makes it hard to type, but the joy she brings is worth it.
I occasionally glance over at my recently acquired live Christmas tree. I got this tree because it was the cheapest, with a nearly bitter spirit, like ‘virtuously’ ordering a sorbet when I wanted a chocolate cake. I got it home and discovered I had ordered the best thing on the menu – I fell in love with this absurd little tree.
My point – set the stage. Look for things that bring you joy and intentionally include them while doing other activities. Next…
Accept Cosmic Help
Seriously. As I was beginning to writing the last paragraph, I clicked over to my browser in order to put on joyful music in the background. My email was open, and since I’m easily distracted, I opened one from Jeannette Maw, the Good Vibe Coach. It was a message that didn’t apply to me, but she shared this link because it made her so happy:
(Go ahead and click – it will open in a new window. Come back if you’re not joyful yet, or you just want to share it in the comments here!)
So it’s taking me 45 minutes to write one paragraph, because I keep flipping back to the site, seeing who is dancing now, and where they are. (Hey! 3:30AM is Vermont Ave! 7:40AM is my bike path!)

Once you set your intention to spread joy, God/The Universe/The Divine helps.
Dial It Up
Okay, here we go…intentionally find things that make you feel joyful…and do them. Schedule them if you must. Music and dance are my top two joy inducers. Figure out yours and pack this week full of them.
Here’s one way to start – you may have to watch an ad, but it’s worth it!
So…did it work? Did I transmit my own joy to you? Leave a comment and let me know. Have a joyful week!
