A Mystical ExperienceI’ve always had the ability to sense the Divine. I realize that might sound a little crazy, but for me it simply is how things are – obviously there is some kind of God/Source/Divine Love, because I feel it. When people tell me they don’t believe in God, for me it sounds like “I don’t believe in air.”  And similarly, most of the time, God is very much like air – present, necessary for survival, but I am not conscious of it in any way.

(This is not in any way saying people who don’t believe in God are wrong or doomed or anything silly of the sort – having this perceptual bent makes hell sound ridiculous. It’s also completely possible that there’s just something wrong with me that makes me perceive a blanket of divine love when in fact none exists. If it’s a delusion, it is one I’m happy to have.)

There are times, though, when the experience of the divine goes from a gentle background hum to a sharp, poignant, beautiful moment of clear and immediate divine connection. My friend calls these “god moments” and if you’ve experienced one, you know what I mean – the world is so beautiful, love fills the air, and you often end up weeping with gratitude to be part of such a beautiful whole.

Earlier in the year, I had what I believe to be a mystical experience – the love and oneness was overwhelming and yet not, the joy indescribable, the beauty of the entire planet and each person on it so radiant that no words could ever capture it. It lasted maybe six hours, and I will never forget it.

This post began as an attempt to share the wonder of that experience with you, and I’ve found that I simply can’t – I don’t have the ability to put all of that wonder into words. Luckily, though, there are others that do. I’d like to share some of their words with you today. These are two poems from my two favorite mystics:

Seed Market hafiz learned so much

A Mystical Experience

What Do You Desire?

May 18, 2014 by Liz Leave a Comment

Recently I began taking a class on developing and deepening my intuition, and have been diligently practicing, because it’s so much fun to do. And, over and over again, no matter what I ask, I keep getting the answer, “what do you want?” or some variation of it. It seems as if the unseen is […]

Open Hearted Giving and Receiving

April 20, 2014 by Liz 2 Comments

As this is being published, I’m visiting with my dear friends in Mexico. I wasn’t really sure I’d be joining them on this trip, as I’m committed to living within my means and paying down credit card debt, and a flight to Mexico during spring break didn’t seem like it was going to be ‘within […]

Transmit Joy

December 15, 2013 by Liz Leave a Comment

It’s Joy week of this Advent series, and I’m inviting you to join me in spreading joy this week. Joy is infectious, so that makes this week’s ‘challenge’ easy: fill yourself with as much joy as possible. This is very personal – I’m not sure what brings you joy. It doesn’t really matter though – […]

Looking for Clues

November 3, 2013 by Liz Leave a Comment

A dear friend of mine is always inviting all around her to look for clues to the changes we hope to see happening in our lives and in the world. I love her for this – one amongst a million reasons – because it reminds me, always, to be on the side of hope. Keeping […]

Reclaiming Advent: The Joy Game

December 9, 2012 by Liz Leave a Comment

It’s the joy week of this Advent series; this has always been my favorite – the week of the pink candle! Like pink, joy is one of my favorite things.  I believe we each have an unlimited capacity for joy in our lives, but that we’re rarely using even a fraction of it. So this […]

Why Work With Me?

Because I'm on your side. Because I can often see the beautiful truth about you, even when you can't. Because I understand what it's like to wonder if I will ever get over 'my issues' - and how it feels to believe a job was eroding my soul. Read My Story...
