The last several weeks we’ve been exploring your soul’s land (you can go back and check out these posts if you haven’t had a chance to read them yet.) What we’re going to do today is see how that land translates to your true self.
So from prior exercises you should know the climate, the dimensions, the shape, the location and other details of your soul’s land – bring that to mind.
Pretend you are limited to only three descriptive words to explain the essence of this land to someone with no knowledge of it – what would they be? If you were to imagine these three words written on a picture of your soul’s land, what font would they be printed in?
Some examples might look like this:
It’s incredibly powerful to find an image and do this process. While looking at these examples will give you a fairly good idea of what I mean, doing the process for your own soul’s land may reveal far more about you than you might think.
My process (somewhat inhibited by the need to find a photo I can use commercially) revealed this about my soul’s land:
To my surprise, it’s vulnerable to share this picture with you. It feels like I’m revealing a deeper part of myself than I normally would. (Which is good – it means the charting worked!)
Once you complete that portion of the exercise, there’s just one more thing to do – answer this question: if someone else were to see this land and could use only three “identity” words to describe the person who belongs on that land, what would they be? (By “identity” words, I mean, he’s a father, a lover, a gambler. She’s an idealist, a Puritan, a femme fatale. She’s a monk, a rockstar, a twin. You get the gist. )
My answers for my own picture: a dreamer, a romantic, a contemplative. These are not normally my first three words to describe myself – but they fit the core of who I am very well. I’d love to hear what you discovered during this exercise – please leave a comment and share it.
